Savannah River Preserve
Written by Kathy Dixon
Nestled comfortably in the woods off Hwy 24 in Screven County you will find a haven for anyone looking for unique hunting and shooting opportunities. The entrance sign reads Savannah River Preserve but Savannah River Experience would serve as well. Follow the driveway lined with magnolia trees and the woods open up to the main lodge and cabins surrounded by sporting clay and archery ranges. The setting gives the impression of a small village whose inviting presence speaks of southern grace and hospitality.

Southern Dove Hunting
When the calendar flips over and September arrives I begin to smell burnt gunpowder in the air and my mouth waters for the taste of bacon wrapped dove breast hot off the grill. Mark Brannen
Mark Brannen knows what it means to live on the edge. His idea of fun is screaming down the track at over 160 mph in a car he made himself. It’s what he loves and he does it well.

Marks love affair with cars and speed began when he was seventeen years old. His father purchased two 1955 Chevys for $1000 and gave Mark the job of fixing one of them up. While he admits that the coolness of a ’55 Chevy took a little while for a young teenager to fully appreciate, he eventually did and learned to love the car.

Looking at Lures
Written by James Kirk Sparks
Thank goodness the spawn has finally for the most part come to an end. Bass patterns in the southeast are simpler to predict, and putting a limit in the live well is pretty much a given. For the most part you still have to work for them, and with food sources being abundant this time of the year, you may have to fish several different lures and techniques to produce numbers of fish.
